The 2nd annual Albany Film Festival, presented by the NYS Writers Institute, is on Saturday, April 2 at the University at Albany. The festival features "bookish" events exploring the craft of diverse storytelling in cinema, foster a deeper understanding of social justice and celebrate the human experience in all its dimensions.
Enjoy full-length and short film screenings, special guests from the film industry, in-depth panel discussions, short film contest awards and the Ironweed Award winners.
2022 special guests include:
- Director Derek Cianfrance and novelist Wally Lamb discussing their adapation of Lamb's book "I Know This Much is True" starring Mark Ruffalo.
- Filmmakers Stanley Nelson and Marcia Smith will discuss their Oscar-nominated documentary, “Attica.”
- Award-winning actor Karen Allen (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”) will discuss her directorial debut, a short film based on a Carson McCuller’s story, A Tree. A Rock. A Cloud.
- Novelist Russell Banks will join director Michael Caplan in a discussion of Caplan’s film, “Algren,” a documentary about Nelson Algren, one of the most underrated writers of the 20th century who was an important influence on Banks.”
