ALBANY, N.Y. (June 6, 2023) – The Albany County Sports Commission has arranged to bring the 2023 Scrabble Word Cup to Albany this summer. Over 300 avid Scrabble players will gather at the Albany Marriott June 30-July 4 for Scrabble's most prestigious tournament of the year. The event promises to bring together enthusiasts of the world's most popular word game for an exciting competition filled with learning, fun, and over $75,000 USD in prize money.
This year's attendees include renowned players such as 'G.I.' Joel Sherman, a former World and US champion, Adam Logan, a former World, US, and Canadian champion, and Stefan Fatsis, New York Times bestselling author of Word Freak: Heartbreak, Triumph, Genius, and Obsession in the World of Competitive SCRABBLE Players, who will deliver a captivating keynote speech.
Josh Greenway, Director of the 2023 Word Cup and head of the grassroots team at LetsPlayScrabble.com, is thrilled to bring this educational game and unique experience to the wider Albany community.
