Albany, NY - Educators from across the state will meet in Albany for the 79th Annual New York State Council for the Social Studies, March 23-25, at the Albany Capital Center. The conference will be one of the first in the new facilities, and its annual contract extends through 2019.

"Albany is the ideal location for the conference this year, and over the next several years," says Paul Gold, President-Elect and Convention Chairperson for the New York State Council for the Social Studies. "With a new convention center recently completed, and the wonderful relationship that we have built with Albany Capital Center and the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, it makes the most sense to be in our state's capital. Geographically, Albany is easily accessible for all teachers in New York State."

Over the course of three days, participants will have the opportunity to participate in unique sessions centering on literacy and justice. Participants can also choose from multiple intensive three-hour clinics, and learn from technology experts in the digital lounge. Friday night, the local chapter of the council will sponsor Albany Prohibition Night at the nearby Speakeasy 518.

"The goals for this conference are no different than they have been for the past 79 years; to provide teachers with the best professional development and resources that we can offer," says Gold. "With more than 80 sessions over three days, and dozens of exhibitors in attendance, there will be something for all who attend."

Last year, the annual conference resulted in 272 hotel rooms and $281,000 in sales, including $173,000 in direct sales.
