Inspiration
The Gansevoorts were prosperous Albany traders and brewers who had the means to acquire imported luxury goods like their punch bowl. They also patronized local artists and craftsmen. Among the couples' surviving household objects is a colorful portrait of Magdalena with a basket of fruit beside her, leading one to guess that a favored punch recipe of the Gansevoorts was Cherry Bounce, a popular and eminently palatable drink in colonial America.
