DISCOVER ALBANY, CITY OF ALBANY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF VIRTUAL TOUR OF ALBANY HERITAGE EXHIBIT

Albany Exhibit previously housed in Visitors Center digitized for all to tour online

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 20, 2020) – Discover Albany and the City of Albany are proud to launch the virtual tour of the Discover Albany Visitors Center’s Albany Museum exhibit is now available online.

The history exhibit, previously housed in the Discover Albany Visitors Center, was digitized just prior to its closing in February 2020. The early release version of the exhibit is available to tour online via the Discover Albany website as of March 18. A director’s cut version is in the works to include annotations from throughout the exhibit.

Hudson Reality Capture, a Troy, N.Y.-based virtual reality startup, captured the exhibit. The project was paid for by the City of Albany.

“While we could not have anticipated that this virtual exhibit would be so well timed, we are excited to be able to share this with potential visitors, students and residents alike to enjoy from home while they practice safe social distancing,” said Jill Delaney, president and CEO of Discover Albany.

“It's an honor to create this digital twin of the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center. Hudson Reality Capture is dedicated to promoting and archiving our region through virtual tourism. Now with so many families social distancing at home, we hope this exhibit will delight many new audiences,” said V. Owen Bush, principal, Hudson Reality Capture.

The Albany Exhibit, along with the Henry Hudson Planetarium, first opened to visitors in February 1992 after years of planning by city and county officials. Through this collaborative effort, the exhibit will live online for years to come.
