Sitting majestically atop Albany's State Street hill, the New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880s. The building is a marvel of late 19th century architectural grandeur. Under the direction of five architects, the Capitol was built by hand of solid masonry over a period of 32 years. By 1899 its cost had exceeded twenty-five million dollars. Tours of the Capitol are available Monday through Friday at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm, and Saturdays 11am and 1pm. Closed Sundays & Holidays. Reservations are not required for weekdays, but are required for Saturdays. Please call 518-474-2418 for reservations. Weekday tours begin at the Information Desk in the State Street Lobby of the Capitol. Saturday tours begin at the Plaza Visitors Center, in the North Concourse of Empire State Plaza. Audio Tours available Monday through Friday.
