Cohoes, Green Island & Watervliet
Cohoes, Green Island and Watervliet are dubbed the "Three Amigos" by New York Assemblyman John McDonald, the former Cohoes mayor.
Located on the northern edge of Albany County, these three Hudson riverfront communities were historically manufacturing centers that are now experiencing an exciting period of revitalization.
City of Cohoes
In the 1800s, Cohoes earned the nickname "Spindle City" with 6 large cotton mills running over 200,000 spindles. Today, Cohoes is experiencing a revitalization with an array of new breweries, restaurants, and small businesses. Cohoes is also home to Cohoes Falls, the second largest waterfall in NYS.
City of Watervliet
Watervliet, nicknamed "Arsenal City", is geographically small at just under 1.5 square miles. During the early 19th century, Watervliet became a major manufacturing community. The Watervliet Arsenal was constructed in 1813 & is the oldest continuously active arsenal in the USA.
Town of Green Island
Green Island is one of the few places in NYS where the incorporated village and town have the same boundaries. Just under 1 square mile in size, Green Island is comprised of three islands. Starbuck Island has recently undergone a complete transformation with a new resort-style community!
