A MESSAGE FOR OUR VALUED GUESTS: As part of Mayor Sheehan’s efforts to support redevelopment at and around Quackenbush Square in Downtown Albany, the Irish American Heritage Museum - currently located at 370 Broadway - will make its new home at this location, 25 Quackenbush Square. In order to accommodate the museum’s move, the Albany Visitors Center Heritage Exhibit will close on February 14th. The Henry Hudson Planetarium will close its doors on February 20, 2020. See Calendar of Events at albany.org for star show listings. The Visitors Center will continue to offer tourism assistance, provide unique Albany gift options in our shop, and continue to house the USS Albany Heritage Exhibit. Discover Albany has been serving as the management entity for the Visitors Center and Planetarium on behalf of the City of Albany for 22 years. We would like to take this time to express our appreciation for the generations of sightseers and stargazers who have visited over the years. Sincerely, The Discover Albany Team The building that originally served as a water pumping station, now serves as a staffed tourist information center that provides an orientation to the City of Albany. The museum galleries offers a variety of permanent displays exploring the history of Albany from 1609 to present day and the USS Albany Heritage Exhibit featuring ships named for the capital city from 1846 to the present. In addition, special exhibits and events featuring the history and culture of the Capital Region are scheduled throughout the year. A self-guided walking tour is available in print. The Albany Gift Shop located at the Visitors Center offers unique Albany gift items and product handmade by local artisans. The Visitors Center is open daily: Monday-Friday 9am-3pm; Saturday 10am-3pm; Sunday 11am-3pm (through March 29). Please note: Effective April 1, 2020 the Visitors Center will be closed on Sundays.
