FREE & open to the public
Albany's highly anticipated spring tradition continues as over 100,000 tulips blossom into a sea of colors just in time for this Mother's Day celebration. Historic events celebrating Albany's rich, Dutch heritage combine with multiple stages of acclaimed live music, craft vendors, a fine arts show, children's activities, & great food to make the Tulip Festival a free, one-of-kind event for the whole family.
Following Dutch tradition of scrubbing the streets in anticipation of a large celebration, the Scrubbing of State Street will take place on Friday, May 10, to kick off the festivities.
Saturday afternoon features the crowning of the Albany Tulip Queen. Nominees go through a competitive interview process and five finalists are chosen to attend the ceremony. One will be crowned the Queen and the other four will serve as the Tulip Court. The Tulip Queen & Court spend their year of reign involved in volunteer projects, community functions, book drives, and develop initiatives to further the Mayor's Literacy Campaign.
New this year is the Drawing Up Central Sidewalk Chalk Competition! From 10 am - 2 pm on Saturday, talented artists from throughout the area will create masterpieces on Central Avenue's sidewalks and compete for cash prizes. Cast a vote for your favorite!
Sunday's events include the Annual Mother of the Year Award.
