Walk the Decks

Aboard USS SLATER you’ll get to walk in the footsteps of heroes. The ship is restored to exactly how it looked in 1945, you’ll be transported back in time and learn of the Greatest Generation in the fight for their lives.

Aim the weapons

Climb into the hot seat! While on tour of SLATER you’ll have the chance to take the 40 mm guns by the “wheel” and take aim. You’ll also have the opportunity to handle each shell type - 3 inch, 40 mm, and 20 mm.

Save History

USS SLATER is a privately owned non-profit, that receives no regular funding from any governmental agency. She is funded by private donations, merchandise sold in the Ship’s Store, and tour tickets sold. Every dollar earned goes directly back into the restoration and preservation of the ship.

What to expect on your tour

 

SAFETY Info

  1. No climbing vertical ladders.

  2. Don’t touch the lifeline.

  3. Stay with your tour guide.

  4. No running.

  5. Wear low-heeled, walking shoes.

  6. Weather appropriate clothing.

  7. Large bags and strollers are not permitted.

  8. No tripods or selfie sticks.

 

Important info

  1. Your experience at the ship may take at least 90 minutes.

  2. The tour will require climbing open stairways and walking through some tight spaces that may be strenuous for some visitors.

  3. Tours are given rain or shine, snow or sleet. Dress appropriately.

  4. There are no restrooms aboard the ship. There is a shoreshide restroom available. Please plan accordingly.
