Our Mission
The Audubon Society of the Capital Region is a volunteer community which connects people to nature and inspires them to protect birds and their habitats, today and tomorrow.
Originally established as the Albany County Audubon Society in 1969, the Audubon Society of the Capital Region (ASCR) has expanded its reach in the Capital Region to include members in Schenectady, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Columbia, southern Saratoga, & Schoharie counties.
We are the local chapter of the National Audubon Society and dedicated to the protection, conservation and enjoyment of birds, wildlife and the environment in the Capital Region of New York State.

Programs
ASCR is involved in several ongoing programs that are staffed by dedicated volunteers. Among the programs are TangleTainers (fish line disposal containers), Bald Eagle Nest Watch, bird population observation to monitor the effects of climate change, bird nest box building, and consultations for native plantings for birds and pollinators.

Contact capitalregionaudubon@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering with ASCR. We’d be happy to have you join the flock!
We have prepared PowerPoint presentations on bird identification, window collision prevention, native plants for birds and pollinators, and invasive species that can be set up on electronic meeting sites such as Zoom and Google Meet. These webinars are informative and comprehensive.

Contact capitalregionaudubon@gmail.com if you are interested in setting up a webinar for your organization/club.
Each year, ASCR schedules bird hikes and walks for groups at one or more important bird areas. Space is limited for the walks, but they are always fun. Bird walk leaders gear the walks to the level of expertise of the group, and children are welcome.

Contact capitalregionaudubon@gmail.com if you are interested in setting up or attending a bird walk/hike.
ASCR has a history of providing a presence at community events. Recently, volunteers have staffed tables at local farmers’ markets, plant sales, and environmental health and safety events. Of special note is the ASCR Annual Bird Seed Sale, which is a major fundraiser for the Society. The Sale and the ASCR Annual Meeting are two of the largest recurring events, but we are always looking for more ways to spread the word about birds.
