On behalf of the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau we are delighted to welcome the 79th Annual Conference of the New York State Council for the Social Studies and the New York State Social Studies Supervisors Association to New York State's historical Capital City.

The Albany Capital Center

CONGRATULATIONS on being the inaugural group at the brand new Albany Capital Center!  This state-of-the-art facility is located right in the heart of downtown Albany, within walking distance to many attractions, restaurants, museums, and more.  

Capital Complex

The Albany Capital Center is part of the Capital Complex, made up of four unique meeting and event venues. Consisting of more than 159,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, the Capital Complex will be the largest meeting space in Upstate New York.  With the Albany Capital Center, Empire State Plaza Convention Center, The Egg Performing Arts Center, and the Times Union Center Arena, the Capital Complex connects all these attractions, meeting venues, and entertainment options with an enclosed walkway!

A few blocks from the hotel is the contemporary design of the Empire State Plaza, completed as a vision of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller in 1978. The Plaza was built not only to serve as government offices, but as a center of arts, culture and community activity. The New York State Museum (the largest State Museum in the country), the Empire State Art Collection and the Empire State Performing Arts Center (known as The Egg for its unusual and distinctive design) are all contained at the Plaza.  In addition, you will be able to visit the NYS Capitol as well as the Albany Institute of History & Art. 

Located just a short walk from downtown Albany's business district is Lark Street, often referred to as the "Greenwich Village" of the Capital Region. With countless restaurants, cafes, art galleries, boutiques and more, Lark Street is reminiscent of the great and colorful neighborhoods of Manhattan. Visitors Center

The Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center offers visitors access to information seven days a week.  The knowledgeable staff can answer visitor inquiries and they are well stocked with travel brochures about New York's Capital Region.

The Visitors Center is also home to the USS Albany Exhibit, an exhibit dedicated to preserving the National Heritage of the City of Albany and to honor all those who proudly served aboard ships named after the capital city of New York State. Experience the rich history of the USS Albany ships starting in 1846 to the current day. Come walk through history and view memorabilia!

Green Your Meeting

Green MeetingWhat can I do as an Attendee to be Environmentally Responsible at My Conference? You have the power to make a difference....start by adopting a few common sense policies that will not compromise your will make you feel good knowing you have contributed to part of your conference's success by leaving a smaller carbon footprint. If available, please make sure to recycle as much as possible in your hotel room, catered functions, registration and on the exhibit floor. Paperless, paperless, paperless whenever possible. If conference mobile apps are available, utilize as much as you can. Ask the housekeeping department not to change the sheets and towels daily unless requested by you. In addition, ask the hotel not to replace the amenities daily unless they are gone. Before leaving your sleeping room for the day shut blinds and turn down the heat/air conditioning during the day in rooms while attendees are gone.
