October 28th is Oxi (Oh-hee) Day in Greece and aboard USS SLATER. This day celebrates Greeks who said "No" to Italian forces when they tried to invade Greece in 1940. After this resistance Winston Churchill said "...until now we would say that the Greeks fight like heroes. From now on we will say that heroes fight like Greeks." SLATER served under the Greek flag, in their navy for 40 years and so, to celebrate that service we share with you our Oxi Day ceremony. Please join us in downtown Albany, 0900 for the ceremony and a guided tour of the ship immediately after.
