  • Overview

Meet local artist Joseph Anastasio in the Art Room at the Museum, where he will answer your questions about his paintings and provide a behind-the-scenes look into his artwork. The exhibit – part of permanent collection – features a selection of acrylics on ceramic tiles and watercolors portraying vivid images of Italy.

Born in Cefalú, Sicily – the island at the toe of the boot and one of the twenty regions of Italy – Joe studied art history and painting in America; in Florence, Italy; and under the tutelage of the art director at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo in Sicily. After receiving his degree, Joe taught art history for two years in Palermo before returning to the United States.

Back in the States, Joe worked on computer graphic design and illustration. He continued to paint, working with oils for many years and later switching to acrylics because of environmental concerns. In his travels throughout Europe and North Africa, Joe took pictures of scenes and images and through his artwork he has converted them into picturesque representations.

Meet Joe and find out what inspired him to create images that capture the eyes and imagination.
