Bicentennial of Lafayette's Farewell Tour Visits Albany, NY

    2024 commemorates the 200th anniversary of Marquis de Lafayette's farewell tour of the United States. The American Friends of Lafayette will host a monumental Bicentennial celebration with hundreds of events planned to trace Lafayette's footsteps on the exact dates and in the exact order he followed on his tour of America as the “Guest of the Nation” between 1824 and 1825.

    Local officials will welcome the Marquis at LaFayette Park at 10:00 AM, then we will proceed to the Capitol for tours and proclamations from elected officials. The Masonic Lodge will host a luncheon, including noted speakers discussing LaFayette’s commitments to individual freedoms and abolitionism. Guided bus or walking tours of historic Albany will follow. The evening dinner will begin with a procession by the 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment, followed by music, and highlighted by a presentation by author Chris Ruli on his new book, Brother LaFayette.
