Movies Under the Stars
Imagine watching a movie under the stars at Washington Park, the College of Saint Rose, or even the SUNY System Administration Building. Locals and visitors can do just that with the free, outdoor movie series called "Movies Under the Stars." Catch a family-friendly movie such as Mary Poppins Returns, The Lego Movie 2 and Captain Marvel at a different location each week. This free outdoor movie series is presented by a number of local organizations including Christ's Church Albany, Pine Hills Neighborhood Association, City of Albany, Downtown Albany BID, Lark Street BID and more. June 21, June 28 and July 5.
Summer In The City
Every summer, downtown Albany's Palace Theater hosts "Summer In The City", a series of free, family-friendly movies. Doors open early each week for educational activities and crafts for the kids. Plus, free popcorn is provided to all children 12 and under. The movie series ends on a sweet note with an ice cream social following the last movie showing in August. July 9. July 16, July 23, July 30, August 7, August 13, August 20 and August 27.
Capitol Park After Dark
West Capitol Park (the park between the New York State Capitol and the Alfred E. Smith Building) is transformed into an outdoor cinema each summer by Empire State Plaza. This year "Capitol Park After Dark" features classic movies such as My Fair Lady and Double Indemnity screened under the stars. This free outdoor movies series is part of the highly anticipated Summer at the Plaza event series. August 21 and August 28.
Aurora Games Kickoff at the Plaza
The inaugural Aurora Games Festival at the Times Union Center is one of the most-talked-about events of the summer in Albany. As part of Summer at the Plaza, Empire State Plaza Events is kicking off the Aurora Games with a FREE celebration on Monday, August 19. Festivities will include a special screening of A League of Their Own on the Plaza’s main stage, meet and greet opportunities with star athletes and a spectacular fireworks display to top off the evening. A movie under the stars and fireworks? It is the perfect summer night for family and friends! August 19.
