Tantalize Your Taste Buds with Tidbits of History: Food Tours Now in Albany and Troy
Delmar, NY – Taste of Troy Food Tours LLC will offer Capital Region residents and tourists alike the opportunity to sample food and beverages that are helping to revitalize two of the region’s historic cities:
Aligning with Discover Albany’s Tastes and Traditions theme for 2018, Taste of Troy Food Tours LLC expands to Albany with the launch of Historic Downtown Albany Food Tours on Fridays, 12:45-4 p.m., May-October;
The highly popular Central Troy Historic District Food Tours are back for the third season on Saturdays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., May-October.
“Food tours are about telling the story of a city in a delicious way, tasting local foods while giving exposure to the entrepreneurs who are bringing culinary creativity to their city. They combine sightseeing and enjoyment of unique and memorable food and drink experiences into one mouth-watering adventure. Our food tours tell Albany and Troy’s stories delectably,” said Amy Koren-Roth, owner of Taste of Troy Food Tours LLC.
Beginning May 4, visitors can experience Albany’s exciting culinary scene firsthand through the new Historic Downtown Albany Food Tours. The guided walking tour will feature historic facts and city landmarks, punctuated by tastes from six independent Albany restaurants including The Pump Station, Ama Cocina, The Hollow Bar and Kitchen, Cider Belly Doughnuts, Stacks Espresso Bar and Olde English Pub.
The Central Troy Historic District Food Tours, starting May 5, include visits to five eateries and the magnificent Tiffany-designed interior of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, a historic and architectural landmark. Many of the featured eateries will be back this year, including Psychedelicatessen, The Whistling Kettle, Illium Café and The Dutch Udder and some new partners. This tour ends in time for guests to explore the acclaimed Troy Waterfront Farmer’s Market.
Each three-hour, easy walking tour is a progressive meal, led by a knowledgeable guide who takes guests on a curated exploration of these historic areas.
Food tourism continues to be one of the most popular trends in travel, whether in your own town, region, country or around the world. It can include the food carts and street vendors as well as the locals-only (gastro)pubs, dramatic wineries or one-of-a-kind restaurants. This year Taste of Troy Food Tours LLC has joined with six other Upstate New York independent food tour companies to form the Upstate New York Food Tour Trail. As a benefit, guests who take a food tour in Troy or Albany can then enjoy a 10 percent discount when booking a tour in Saratoga Springs, Ithaca, Syracuse, Rochester, Oswego or Lewiston. Each location offers a progressive meal with a curated historical experience.
Tour space is limited and pre-booking is required. Tickets are $49-$59 depending on the tour ($29-$39 for children 3-12) and include food and beverage tastings that will satisfy even the hardiest of appetites. Tours take place rain or shine. Private tours for special occasions – corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties, bridal showers, family reunions etc. – can be arranged upon request. Tours can cater to most dietary restrictions.
