Knock it out of the park with this suggested baseball itinerary. Start at home plate in Albany and head out to left field (West) to Cooperstown for the National Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony. We'll even tell you where to get the best hot dogs in town!
Dug Out - Albany Hotel Check-In
Drop your bags at one of Albany's many fine hotels that are conveniently located to major highways, the Albany International Airport, and the bus and train stations. Most hotels offer complimentary breakfast so you can warm up properly for your stay.
Stock up
Be sure to stock up for your adventure by heading to Dick's Sporting Goods or Sports Authority in Crossgates Mall, which has all the baseball gear you'll need to look the part: hats, jerseys, sunglasses, and more!
Concession Stand - Hot Dog Run
You're probably starting to get hungry, and though there are many great places to get food, we suggest you head to one of the many hot dog eateries in the area. Gus's in Watervliet and Famous Lunch in Troy all have their own take on the perfect dog. Head to one of these local hot spots or try them all in a World Series-style match up that will have the whole family cheering for their favorite!
Left Field - Cooperstown
Though getting to Cooperstown will require a bit of driving, it's well worth the trip! Take a tour of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and, if you're lucky, witness the induction ceremony on July 26, 2015. A number of events will take place during the induction weekend so plan accordingly, but know you will have a comfortable room in Albany as many Cooperstown accommodations are already sold out.
While in Cooperstown, consider taking a side trip to Brewery Ommegang or Glimmerglass Opera.
Play Ball!
Show some pride for Albany while cheering on the Tri-City Valley Cats at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. Be sure to check their schedule for theme nights, when you can get your hands on some freebies (including the popular bobbleheads), and even view fireworks after the game!
Back home
When back in Albany, be sure to check out the Recovery Room Sports Grills with many locations throughout the area. Recovery Sports Grill is a family restaurant for sports enthusiasts who enjoy watching live sports combined with excellent and affordable dining. With over 50 TV and HD satellite receptions, this is the place to be for every sports fan. There's not a bad seat in the house (including TVs on their patio and even in their restrooms) - you wont miss a play!
