Dan McCoy

Greetings!

I'm so happy you are visiting Albany County to experience its charm, charisma and beauty. Each season, Albany County exhibits new character by offering a wide range of activities to entertain families, singles, senior citizens and children. Simply, Albany County has something for everyone.

You will be mesmerized by our architecture and you must visit our extraordinary museums, theatres and restaurants. The city of Albany's business district and surrounding neighborhoods are rich with cultural heritage, while the suburbs offer historic houses and public spaces. Our hill towns showcase nature and agriculture at its finest.

As the capital of New York State, Albany is the hub of state government and offers magnificent sights including the Million Dollar Staircase at the State Capitol, the Empire State Plaza and the Egg.

Enjoy your visit and we hope to see you in Albany County again soon!

Daniel P. McCoy
Albany County Executive

On behalf of the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, we are delighted to welcome the Northeast Association of Advisors for the Health Professions to New York State's historical capital city.

We are certain your experience will be productive and personally rewarding, but will also provide you with an opportunity to discover all that Albany has to offer. From shopping to dining, to arts and entertainment opportunities, and countless cultural cuisine venues, Albany has it all for you to take in!

The Hilton Albany is the host hotel and located in the heart of downtown Albany. A few blocks from the hotel is the contemporary design of the Empire State Plaza, completed as a vision of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller in 1978. The Plaza was built not only to serve as government offices, but as a center of arts, culture and community activity. The New York State Museum (the largest State Museum in the country), the Empire State Art Collection and the Empire State Performing Arts Center (known as The Egg for its unusual and distinctive design) are all contained at the Plaza. In addition, you will be able to visit the NYS Capitol as well as the Albany Institute of History & Art.

The Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center offers visitors access to information seven days a week. The knowledgeable staff can answer visitor inquiries and they are well stocked with travel brochures about the capital region of New York State. The Visitors Center is also home to the USS Albany Exhibit, an exhibit dedicated to preserving the National Heritage of the City of Albany and to honor all those who proudly served aboard ships named after the capital city of New York State. Experience the rich history of the USS Albany ships starting in 1846 to the current day. Come walk through history and view memorabilia!

While you are in the capital region enjoying your conference be sure to add some unique culinary options and infuse some local destination flavor into your stay. From locally grown fare to unique craft cocktails and beer, there will definitely be something to please your palate and leave you wanting more!

Another fun meeting experience that has grown in popularity is attending a local Farmers' Market. Markets are dedicated to offering fresh food, produce, crafts, wines, organic meats and cheeses, honey and baked goods. Visiting the capital region markets helps to support local, small farms. The nearer the food is, the less gas, electricity and other energy is used transporting it, saving the environment and the economy from the effects of wasted energy. Most markets are seasonal so be sure to visit their website for the latest information. Enjoy!

Green Meeting

What Can I do as an Attendee to be Environmentally Responsible at My Conference? You have the power to make a difference....start by adopting a few common sense policies that will not compromise your experience...it will make you feel good knowing you have contributed to part of your conference's success by leaving a smaller "carbon footprint". If available, please make sure to recycle as much as possible in your hotel room, catered functions, registration and on the exhibit floor. Paperless, paperless, paperless whenever possible. If conference mobile apps are available, utilize as much as you can. Ask the housekeeping department not to change the sheets and towels daily unless requested by you. In addition, ask the hotel not to replace the amenities daily unless they are gone. Before leaving your sleeping room for the day shut blinds and turn down the heat/air conditioning during the day in rooms while attendees are gone. Utilize public or hotel transportation as much as possible....better yet walk if you can. For additional information on how you and/or your meeting can make a difference click here.

Listed below are several useful links that will provide you with additional information as well as information regarding services, shopping and dining in the Capital Region.
