The Albany Times Union traces its beginnings to 1857, when the Morning Times was founded as a daily newspaper in Albany, N.Y. Following numerous name changes, mergers and transfers of ownership, William Randolph Hearst purchased the Albany Times Union in 1924. Today, the Times Union is the leading daily newspaper covering New York´s Capital Region. In addition to the daily and Sunday newspaper, the Times Union publishes Times Union Local Values and many specialty publications. The Times Union also offers internet services through knick.net, DirecTU direct marketing services and hosts several major trade shows and events. The timesunion.com site is the most accessed media website in the Capital Region (2006 Media Audit) and recently was named the best American online newspaper in its circulation class by the Newspaper Association of America.
