An Evening with History: A Reception at the Albany Institute of History & Art
We are thrilled to invite you to come experience 400 years of local history at the Albany Institute of History & Art on Tuesday evening, October 23 from 6:00pm- 7:30pm. A reception for all ICEGOV attendees is generously hosted by the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, and sponsored by the Center for Economic Growth, Albany-Colonie Chamber of Commerce, Capitalize Albany Corporation, and the Downtown Business Improvement District. The Albany Institute of History & Art collections reflect the significance of Albany and the Upper Hudson Valley region in American history and art history.
Hotel Albany is the host hotel and located in the heart of downtown Albany. A few blocks from Hotel Albany is the contemporary design of the Empire State Plaza, completed as a vision of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller in 1978. The Plaza was built not only to serve as government offices, but as a center of arts, culture and community activity. The New York State Museum (the largest State Museum in the country), the Empire State Art Collection and the Empire State Performing Arts Center (known as The Egg for its unusual and distinctive design) are all contained at the Plaza. In addition, you will be able to visit the NYS Capitol.
Albany Historic Ghost Tours are "back from the dead" for another season of haunting in downtown Albany. While you're here, enjoy a fright filled night and explore the historical (and not so historical) ghosts that inhabit New York's capital city. From Ten Broeck Mansion, to the Capitol building and Graceland Cemetery, you will learn about Albany's most famous apparitions.
Located just a short walk from downtown Albany's business district is Lark Street, often referred to as the "Greenwich Village" of the Capital Region. With countless restaurants, cafes, art galleries, boutiques and more, Lark Street is reminiscent of the great and colorful neighborhoods of Manhattan. For more information on dining and shopping on Lark Street, please click here.
Explore Wolf Road and you will find many options for shopping and dining, including over 40 restaurants and Colonie Center Shopping Mall featuring L.L. Bean, P.F. Chang's, The Cheesecake Factory, Sephora, Christmas Tree Shops and Regal Cinemas Stadium 13.
You can come early and stay late and take advantage of all that Albany and the surrounding regions have to offer. From the Hudson Valley Wineries south of Albany, to Saratoga and Lake George north of Albany and even further north to the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, there is something for everyone!
Listed below are several useful links that will provide you with additional information regarding services, shopping and dining in the Capital District. If there is anything we can do prior to your visit or while you are here, please do not hesitate to contact Debby Goedeke, Convention Services Manager at 1-800-258-3582 x 100. We look forward to seeing you in Albany!
