On behalf of the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, we are delighted to welcome Bouchercon 2013 to New York State's historical capital city.  We are certain your conference experience will be productive and personally rewarding and will also provide you with an opportunity to discover all that Albany has to offer. From shopping and dining, to arts and entertainment, to countless eclectic restaurants, Albany has it all for you to take in!

The 2013 Bouchercon Convention is being held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center and the Empire State Performing Arts Center (known as the Egg for its unusual and distinctive design). The Plaza was built not only to serve as government offices, but as a center of arts, culture and community activity. The New York State Museum (the largest State Museum in the country) and the Empire State Art Collection are all contained at the Plaza.

We don't want it to be a mystery where you can have that perfect "gathering" spot for you and your fellow Bouchercon attendees. From sophisticated to casual, there are many downtown Albany lounges that can accommodate everyone. Please click here for more information

*PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE ROAD CLOSURES IN EFFECT AT THE EMPIRE STATE PLAZA DURING YOUR CONVENTION. CLICK HERE TO VIEW AND PLEASE PLAN YOUR COMMUTE ACCORDINGLY. THANK YOU.

You will also be able to visit the NYS Capitol as well as the Albany Institute of History & Art. During your convention the Albany Institute will open an exciting new exhibition: GE Presents: The Mystery of the Albany Mummies. On March 31, 2012 the institute's two mummies traveled to Albany Medical Center to receive x-rays and CT scans in anticipation of the 2013 exhibition. You will be able to actually see and view Albany's oldest residents and learn more about their life as Egyptian citizens.

Albany is a 400+ year old city that is rich in history and architecture. Albany's business districts and neighborhoods abound with exciting cultural heritage, while the countryside is home to many diverse examples of historic house sites and public spaces, including Ten Broeck Mansion, Historic Cherry Hill and the first Shaker Meeting House. Visit the magnificent Gothic structure, now the Administrative Center of the State University of NY, the Delaware & Hudson, and Albany Evening Journal Buildings, located at the base of State Street.

Additionally, The Half Moon, a full scale replica of the original Dutch ship of exploration sailed by Henry Hudson, returns to Albany Thursday, September 19th.  The ship will be open for public tours September 21, 22, 28 & 29 as well as October 5, 6, 12, 13 & 14 (including Columbus Day) from 11am-4pm each day.

Located just a short walk from downtown Albany's business district is Lark Street, often referred to as the "Greenwich Village" of the Capital Region.  With countless restaurants, cafes, art galleries, boutiques and more, Lark Street is reminiscent of the great and colorful neighborhoods of Manhattan.  For more information on dining and shopping on Lark Street, please click here.

Explore Wolf Road and you will find many options for shopping and dining, including over 40 restaurants and Colonie Center Shopping Mall that includes L.L. Bean, P.F. Chang's, The Cheesecake Factory, Sephora, Christmas Tree Shops and Regal Cinemas Stadium 13.

You can arrive early and stay late to take advantage of all that Albany and the surrounding regions have to offer.  From the Hudson Valley Wineries to the south of Albany, to Saratoga Springs and Lake George north of Albany and even further north to the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, there is something for everyone!
