Aqua Ducks MeetKayakers to Lead Flotilla on Hudson River
ALBANY, N.Y. -- At 10 a.m. on Tuesday,May 15, the Albany Aqua Ducks head out to Splashdown into the Hudson River tolead a flotilla welcoming renowned British expeditionary Richard Harpham andfellow adventurer/photographer Glen Charles.
On board the Ducks will be a group offourth grade students and Education Coordinator at the Albany County Convention& Visitors Bureau Carol Ann Margolis.
The two kayakers are traveling 500 milesfrom Buffalo’s historic Erie Canal Harbor to the Statue of Liberty, a journeythat began on May 1 and ends on May 21. They are kayaking along the Erie Canaland through its 36 locks.
The Ducks will meet the adventurers onthe river at approximately 11 a.m. at the Patroon Island Bridge and will lead aflotilla to the I-787 boat launch at the Corning Preserve. There will be apress conference at 11:30 a.m. at the boat launch. The kayakers will then leavefor their next stop, the Coxsackie Yacht Club.
The kayakadventure of Harpham and Charles is called "New York State's Spare SeatKayak Expedition." The public is invited to share a seat in one ofthe kayaks for portions of the journey.
The two men arealso carrying a container of water taken from the Erie Canal and plan to pourit into the Hudson River, symbolically linking the Great Lakes to the AtlanticOcean. Their journey is sponsored by the New York State Division of Tourism’sUK office.
The trip startedat the Buffalo Inner Harbor and travels along the Erie Canal and onto theHudson River, before ending at the Statue of Liberty.
