Albany, New York- Albany Tulip Queen Mishka Gilkes & her Court team up with students from Albany District Links’ Believers and Achievers mentoring program to present the Dare to Dance Challenge for Charity on January 27that the Myers Middle School cafeteria. The Tulip Queen & Court will be on hand from 3 to 4pm to assist students with organizing the fund raiser. Proceeds from the event will benefit the community programs of Albany Catholic Charities. All Myers students, teachers, staff and family members are invited to attend, but this event is not open to the general public.
Believers and Achievers is a group of Myers students that provide each other with mutual support in academic achievement, social development, self-awareness and confidence building. The Believers and Achievers program, in collaboration with the Albany City School District, is sponsored by Albany District Links. Albany District Links is a service organization of African American women who share a 59-year legacy of promoting educational, civic and cultural activities throughout the Greater Capital Region. As part of their mission to promote education and literacy, the Albany Tulip Queen and Court work with Albany District Links and the Believers and Achievers program on various events throughout the year.
The Dare to Dance event serves as a motivational challenge from the Tulip Court and Myers students for other local schools to give back to their communities by sponsoring similar programs.
