Cohoes’ C-R Kids Creative Youth Alliance Selected to Receive

Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ Youth Action Grant

New funding will help Capital Region students lead, serve, and inspire the Capital Region community.

Cohoes, NY – April 20, 2011 – C-R Productions’ C-R Kids was selected as a Starbucks™ Shared Planet™ Youth Action Grant recipient toward its Creative Youth Alliance (CYA).  The CYA was formed in the Fall of 2010 as an offshoot of C-R Kids, C-R Productions’ resident youth acting company.  In three words, the CYA was developed to “lead, serve, and inspire”.  Participants of the CYA are Capital Region students who have an interest in theatre and a dedication to their communities.  The students partner with other non-profits in the area to serve their community, as well as study theatre, have opportunities to perform, and help fundraise for and promote the historic Cohoes Music Hall.

As part of Starbucks company-wide commitment to help create thriving neighborhoods wherever it does business, the Youth Action Grant engages young people around the world to innovate and take action in their communities.

“By mobilizing young people to be change makers in their communities, we’re tapping into a generation eager to be a force for good in their own neighborhoods,” said Cecilia Carter, Starbucks vice president of Global Diversity and Community Affairs. “We hope our Youth Action Grants will enable a new generation of creative problem-solvers to make a meaningful impact in their communities while gaining valuable life skills.”

“The Starbuck’s Shared Planet Youth Action Award allows CYA participants the opportunity to explore the arts with professional guidance, and use their talents to serve their community through creativity and self expression.  This program helps shape adolescents into creative leaders who use the arts to better their community.  Funding programs such as CYA is an investment in our future,” said Gilli Van Deusen, C-R Productions Communications & Development Coordinator.

Since 2008, Starbucks has awarded more than $5 million in Youth Action Grants to a multitude of non-profit organizations that have engaged more than 50,000 young people in community activities. Additional details about Starbucks community initiatives are available at Starbucks.com/Responsibility/Community.
