Albany Marriott, Albany, NY

I'm so happy you are visiting Albany County to experience its charm, charisma and beauty. Each season, Albany County exhibits new character by offering a wide range of activities to entertain families, singles, senior citizens and children. Simply, Albany County has something for everyone.

You will be mesmerized by our architecture and you must visit our extraordinary museums, theatres and restaurants. The city of Albany's business district and surrounding neighborhoods are rich with cultural heritage, while the suburbs offer historic houses and public spaces. Our hill towns showcase nature and agriculture at its finest.

As the capital of New York State, Albany is the hub of state government and offers magnificent sights including the Million Dollar Staircase at the State Capitol, the Empire State Plaza and the Egg.

Enjoy your visit and we hope to see you in Albany County again soon!

On behalf of the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, we are delighted to welcome the 2013 National Angus Conference & Tour to New York State's historical capital city.

We are certain your conference experience will be productive and personally rewarding, but will also provide you with an opportunity to discover all that Albany has to offer. From shopping to dining, to arts and entertainment opportunities, and countless cultural cuisine venues, Albany has it all for you to take in!

On Thursday, August 29 after a delicious lunch at Garret Farms we will arrive at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. This museum has the world's largest collection of original Norman Rockwell art, including beloved paintings from The Saturday Evening Post and the Four Freedoms, and the best in the field of American Illustration.  Experience Rockwell's art, life and legacy in the artist's picturesque New England hometown.

On Friday, August 30 you will have the choice of visiting the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) or Vanderbilt Mansion after departing from Walbridge Farms. FDR's Springwood Estate is the place he truly loved and considered home. The first US Presidential Library was started by FDR here. You will enjoy visiting his home and Presidential Library & Museum and learning about the only President elected to four terms. Vanderbilt Mansion, in terms of architecture, interiors, mechanical systems, road systems and landscape, is a remarkably complete example of a gilded-age country place, illustrating the political, economic, social, cultural and demographic changes that occurred as America industrialized in the years after the Civil War.

The Albany Marriott is centrally located. You will find many options for shopping and dining in close proximity, including over 40 restaurants and the Colonie Center Shopping Mall featuring L.L. Bean, P.F. Chang's, The Cheesecake Factory, Christmas Tree Shops, Sephora and Regal Cinemas Stadium 13.

Located at Wolf Road Shopper's Park is everyone's favorite clothing store, Talbots (outlet store.) Click here to learn more.

Approximately 20 minutes from Wolf Road is the contemporary design of the Empire State Plaza, completed as a vision of Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller in 1978. The Plaza was built not only to serve as government offices, but as a center of arts, culture and community activity. The New York State Museum (the largest State Museum in the country), the Empire State Art Collection and the Empire State Performing Arts Center (known as The Egg for its unusual and distinctive design) are all contained at the Plaza. In addition, you will be able to visit the NYS Capitol as well as the Albany Institute of History & Art.

Coming to Albany a little bit earlier?  Take advantage of Harmony House Tours!  They offer unique ways for you to explore the Capital Region and beyond. Every Tuesday and Thursday through August, Harmony House Tours offers Guided Walking Tours of Downtown Albany.  The tours leave from Quackenbush Square by the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center and will explore the history, architecture and the hidden treasures of the Capital city.  All tours depart at 11am. Cost is $15 per person. In addition, every Tuesday evening in August, there is a Hops and Haunts guided walking tour. Discover why Albany has had a long love affair with great beer and ghastly ghosts and learn about the spirits that inhabit the historic buildings and streets of the city's downtown.  The tour meets by the Albany Pump Station in Quackenbush Square and departs at 7pm. The cost is $15 per person (beverages not included.)

Listed below are several useful links that will provide you with additional conference information as well as information regarding services, shopping and dining in the Capital Region. If there is anything we can do while you are here, please contact Debby Goedeke, Convention Services Manager at 1-800-258-3582 x 100. Please enjoy your stay and come back soon.
