Sports & Leisure

From Little League to NCAA National Championships, we have our fingers on the pulse of everything your tournament needs to shine. In the past two years alone we have hosted the NYS High School Wrestling and Girls Basketball Championships, the ECAC Men’s Hockey Championships, and the MAAC and America East Basketball Championships. Remember Siena’s mesmerizing run to the Sweet Sixteen? It started in Albany. How about Syracuse’s path to their first ever NCAA Basketball title? It went through Albany. Add that to the huge number of youth and club tournaments in the area, and you have a championship pedigree that can stand on its own against the toughest of competition.

Why not bring your amateur athletes to the City where their favorite professional athletes get their start? With minor league affiliates in the MLB and NHL, as well as semi-pro basketball and football teams and Division-1 programs in 40 sports across four colleges, Albany is a true training-ground in the Northeast.

You don’t need to play an organized sport to enjoy Albany’s countless other recreational activities, either. Golf, skiing, hiking, curling, and fishing are just a few of the numerous recreational opportunities in our county. Albany is also the perfect affordable “hub and spoke” destination, and is a short distance away from Cooperstown, Saratoga, Syracuse, and even Boston!

For information on sporting venues, accommodations, and everything going on with Albany Sports, please browse our website. To speak with us directly about your tournament or event, please contact Gina Mintzer, CMP, MHA (518) 434-1217 ext. 301.

The Albany Devils and the Albany Firebirds team both play at the Times Union Center. Albany is home for the Albany Legends, Tri-City ValleyCats, and the NY Giants summer training camp (with practices and events planned throughout their stay). The area frequently hosts various outstanding high school and collegiate sports championships.

Sporting Championships Held in Albany:
NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships (2/25-2/26/2011), America East, and NCAA, and more.

Along with our great sports facilities and events, we offer four seasons of recreational activities and beautiful parks and gardens. Take the family out to the ball game or get up out of the stands and go boating on the Hudson, swimming or waterskiing at any of the area lakes, play a round of golf on warm weather days, or take the short 40 minute drive to Saratoga Race Track during the thoroughbred racing season, (July-September). Take in the scenic Erie Canalway (map), hop on your bike or take a jog along the Hudson River path. Don't let the cold weather stop you in the winter, get out there and enjoy ice-skating, snow-shoeing, or skiing at Albany's nearby skiing resorts. Albany holds the ticket for all kinds of sports action!
