May is National Preservation Month This May marks the forth annual National Preservation Month, as designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In honor of this designation, the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area joins others across the country in demonstrating the value and importance of preserving our nation’s heritage. Preservation has significant benefits for education, quality of life, sense of place, tourism, and economic development. The Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and the National Trust encourage people to take this opportunity to participate in events and explore their heritage.
The Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced that there is a new CD available, which includes public fishing and boating access maps for 91 locations between Troy and Yonkers, as well as resources to help residents and visitors make the most of their river experience. The maps and information are also available on the DEC website at www.dec.ny.gov/lands/41728.html. The CDs are available for a limited time while supplies last, free of charge, as part of the department’s preparation for the 2009 Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Quadricentennial. The CD was prepared by DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program, a unique regional partnership leading the restoration of the Hudson through implementation of the Hudson River Estuary Action Agenda. Copies of the CD may be obtained by contacting the Estuary Program through email at hrep@gw.dec.state.ny.us, or call (845)256-3016.
